Teaching Philosophy
I believe that everyone learns at a different pace and in different styles. As such, each lesson will be carefully planned to meet the needs of my students. I get to know my students on an individual level and adapt their private lessons according to their needs and aspirations. My purpose as a music teacher is to be supportive and encouraging of everyone’s desired goals.
Whether the student is preparing for a career in music or just wants to have a fun new hobby, I believe in teaching not just the basics of piano but music as a whole, making it a fulfilling and enriching experience. I incorporate both history and theory into the lessons to better instill a full sense of the music, not just the notes on a page. Whether their goal is jazz, classical, rock, country, or contemporary, I equip my students with all the knowledge they need to be successful musicians.
I expect my students not only to learn how to play the piano but also to have a full understanding and appreciation for the music they play. Practicing at home is essential, but in addition, I will offer extra resources such as recordings and literature so they can undoubtedly reach their goals. I am available between lessons for extra help and to answer any questions the students may have. One of my biggest goals for my students is for them to leave feeling knowledgeable in music and able to conquer any style of music they may encounter or wish to play in the future.
